Giants run 74 points past Hull KR Women | Match Report

Huddersfield Giants Women register 74-0 win over Hull KR in Women's Challenge Cup Group Stage clash at John Smith's Stadium

Lori Halloran’s side ran riot against Hull KR in their first competitive game of the season, pulling 14 tries over the visitors.

Becky Grady crossed for the Giants twice within 10 minutes to get the ball rolling for a heavy point-scoring afternoon.

Opposite winger Amelia Brown picked up her first-half try in classic fashion, a sprint from the halfway line before putting the ball down under the sticks. Frankie Townend converted, leaving her 2 goals from 3 and scores 16-0.

Skipper Bethan Oates kept a sharp eye on the Hull line, spotting a gap and going for it. 20-0 to the Giants.

Temporarily, the Robins kept the home side at bay with a solid defence before the fatigue began to settle in.

Ana Da Silva finished the half off with another 4-pointer. Sam Hulme and Frankie Townend unselfishly handed the ball to the birthday girl who would score her first of 3 tries in the game.

Impact interchange Ellie Oldroyd darted under the sticks, in the process recording her first try in claret and gold.

Da Silva’s 50 metre dash, Lois Naidole’s dance around defenders and Brown’s jog down the edge were all dutifully converted by Townend and her handy boot. Giants led 46-0 with 10 minutes to go.

Oldroyd repeated her previous antics to pull the Women to their half century. Jess Harrap’s 5 minute brace, Townend’s own try and Da Silva’s third & final score contribution rounded the game off for us, claiming an astonishing 74-0 win over the Robins.

Giants Women will travel to Leigh Leopards on the 24th as they continue on the road to Wembley.
